Hi. I'm confused. You say "you can't access the file" and then access the file in an editor. I'm just a user, not a tech guy, but if you can look at the file in an editor, then you can access it. I remember telling you the contents of /proc/speakup/voice was an int. Last I heard, 0 is an int. My version of vi uses tilde to show empty lines. So, if I open a file in vi that contains just an int (0), I will see exactly what you describe. Please explain to someone who is just a user what you mean. After all, you are the "tech".
