Hello, Roy. You mentioned you have an AC-97 chipset. Do not, repeat, do not use the oss drivers for the AC-97 chipset as they are buggy and do not work as well as the alsa drivers. Fortunately, for me when I installed Drake 9.2 it installed the alsa ac-97 drivers for my card by default, my sound card works very well. If you can go to the alsa project web site and download compile and install the alsa drivers. I think you will be alot happier with the results. Hth.
