knowing when the computer is booted

hi,
no, this is a via ac'97 audio controler. So I am assumming that linux is
using dribers spacifically for that card.
I hope i am correct on that. I am totally used to windows and can't figure
anything out here.

With the sound working, do an lsmod and find the sound module names.
You can add some modprobe commands to load those modules on boot.
Or, depending on the system, adding entries to /etc/modules.conf
for sound can make the modules load automatically. Are you using
ALSA sound drivers?
