If this is in fact the case, then having the model number would help. If you don't know that piece of info, and this is a pci modem, have a look at /proc/pci. If the model number is 5610, then there are at least 2 previous threads on this list describing how to get that particular modem working under GNU/Linux. If you can't find them, I'll walk you through getting it working. Come to think of it, since a good number of people seem to be using that modem, I should find the time to sit down, and write up a HOWTO on how to get it running.
