Hi Kirk, I am also using gentoo. I used the system rescue cd from www.sysresccd.org to do the install, I had to patch in speakup after the fact. I think it wouldn't be a big deal for them to patch speakup into the kernel for the live cd. I am willing to send them the checkout script if they want me to do that.
