FSCK.EXT3 command

I am baffled by the fsck command. I decided to remove raid from my machine
because it has been causing me problems. I'd rather manage my drives
myself. Now that I did that I need to get the superblocks reset somehow so
that it will let me run an fsck.ext3. Id there an equivalent to a dos and
windows format command which reinitializes a disk drive, or at least a
partition? I wan a surface scan so that my drives can be initialized.
