That's a HOWTO for Red Hat 7.3, which is woefully old news. Actually, the particulars may not be that different, but it's generally best to be as up to date as reasonably possible. Suggest following the 9.0 HOWTO's until Fedora's are out. The rpm command is fine. But, where did you get the kernel, and what's it's name, exactly?
