Haven't yet tried mysql, but I use postgresql.  There's a console-mode
sql client, as well as connectivity to code written in perl, python,
and the like.  Also, I use emacs's appointment calendar, biary, and
contact manager (bbdb).  Bbdb integrates nicely with many emacs
mail/news readers, and the browser (w3).
