try: amixer set whatever nocapture it's confusing. nocapture, unmute ... then again, if you want the answer to anything and are willing to read alot: get 1 or more c reference manuals. (or whatever language it is coded in). and read the source code. ;) i haven't done that much, since mostly man pages help.
