maybe this will spark some ideas in any wanna-be speakup writer.
sorry for the bad spelling but i didnt learn to write good. and i am using ed.
---
first, go and download zipspeak, from slackware's ftp site. it's a 35 mb download,
and will take almost 6 hours on my 28.8.
unzip zipspeak into the root directory, it'll create a directory called linux.
edit the linux batch file, and comment / uncomment the things out.
i can't explane this, only did it once.
get a kernel image off of slackware's ftp site.
get the one for your synthasizer, of course.
copy that file to \linux, under the name vmlinuz.spk.
then if you are using windows, go to start, shut down, and hit down arrow 3 times, to get to the last option.
hit enter, and when you're in dos, type \linux\linux.
if all goes well, it should talk.
------
when it starts talking, press enter on the numeric keypad.
that's the shut up command. here are the commands.
7 reads the previus line.
8 reads the current line
9 reads the next line
4,5,6 read previous/current/next word.
1,2,3 goes for characters.
enter silences speech and routes your speaup cursor to the pc cursor.
0 key is the insert, it does the folowing:
insert-5 spell current word.
insert-keypad enter shut speakup on/off.

the speakup cursor is another cursor, basicly it reads where the pc cursor (the system cursor) can not go.
press the 8 key on the keypad. you should hear the login prompt.
type the word root ad press enter.
you might want to turn on punctuation, but i can't tell you how, because i don't know how.
type passwd (p a s s w d) and hit enter.
follow the instructions. make your password easy to remember but not easy to guess (
don't use your name, last name, dogs name etc).
