There are two things I would look into with your problem creating boot disks. The first is that the file you have may have been corupted. It is aesy enough to test by downloading another disk image to try. (It need not even have speakup in the kernel. The point is to test making the disk.) The second thing that I would suspect is that your floppy is bad. Can you format the disk from DOS?
