Fwd: Redundant entry in serial pci_table

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

This one seems to be a popular one which has been reported several times.

The driver detects whether the entries in the serial_pci_tbl structure
are not necessary, and prints this message. It is saying that this entry
is redundant:

+ { PCI_VENDOR_ID_WCH, PCI_DEVICE_ID_WCH_CH352_2S,
+ PCI_ANY_ID, PCI_ANY_ID,
+ 0, 0, pbn_b0_bt_2_115200 },

People have had a habbit of mindlessly adding these things to the driver
table despite the driver being able to automatically detect boards. The
driver has always complained about it, but I guess developers ignore the
message. Maybe we should make the message do something else, like
msleep(1000) maybe 10 times or something to make it really noticable,
or add a WARN_ON(1) to it, or make the driver ignore the board until
it the duplicate is removed...

Hi

I have this message in the kernel log:

[ 1.576384] serial 0000:01:0a.0: 0000:01:0a.0: Redundant entry in serial
pci_table.
[ 1.576384] Please send the output of lspci -vv, this
[ 1.576384] message (0x4348,0x3253,0x4348,0x3253), the
[ 1.576384] manufacturer and name of serial board or
[ 1.576384] modem board to rmk+serial@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

My board manufacturer is WCH name is "CH352 PCI=>DUAL SERIAL" (some oem
from china). I have attached linux driver source (comming with device. I do
not use it, because it is too old) and inf file of windows driver.
