it is related, I see the move as a workaround for "netdev maintainer complains more than I would like", sorry :P
you are not forced to use it if you don't like it.
I know, time will tell if I would be forced to use it to don't let competitors to make a short term advantage by going by the "who cares, we have fwctl" route.
