Imagine how difficult this bug would be to figure out if
I didn't happen to know that a gcc-4.x miscompile leads to
the iproute2 behavior you are seeing?

All machines are using the same non optimized builds. Using gcc 4, no cflags or cxxflags are set. All machines are all using the same versions of the software. This is done in my test lab here, sorry not to mention that.

   Binutils 2.16.1, Glibc 2.3.6, GCC 4.0.2.
