Actually nothing. Once you get both adapters to function under bonding and configured bond0 for the right IP address, they are already configured as an EtherChannel and that's it. On the switch, you'll need to add the two ports into a single trunk. Why two switches ? -----Original Message----- From: linux-net@source.intac.net [mailto:linux-net@source.intac.net] Sent: Thu, December 20, 2001 10:05 PM To: linux-net@vger.kernel.org Subject: Bonding/Channeling of NICs.. Hi, I want to bond together 2 NIC's that I have(or channel them; Something that can give me 400meg of aggregate bandwidth). So, I have 2 NIC's, 2 Cisco Catalyst 6509 switches. My kenrel: 2.2.14, standard RH 6.2 build. Now, I tried my hand on 'bonding' these NIC's together, but this requires two switches, and also they need to be 'unmanaged' switches, as the bonding method doesnt work correctly. I get my bond0 interface up, and my eth0 and eth1 show up also, with the same MAC address, but I lose 50% of my packets..So, this is a no-go. So, I plan on setting up a fast etherchannel trunk on my Catalyst for this, but what do I need to do on the Linux side? This is where I am running into problems. I would like to have 2 NIC's in a server going directly into the same switch and doing etherchannel. Im at a loss on what to do on the Linux side.
