eth0 interface

In trying to install debian 2.2 from scratch, I am given the choice of
setting up sit0, tun0, and gre0 interfaces, but no eth0 interface. I am not
able to connect to the network after proceeding through the base
installation. It needs eth0 access to download files from ftp or http, but
no such connection is available. I tried once to install networking out of
sequence, and was able to set the ip, netmask, and gateway, but still was
unable to connect to the network. Should there be an option for eth0 in the
installation procedure? Thank you.
