What I've found out is the following: I have several different compact flash cards in my collection. The one closest to working in these adapters is a GXT 2GB 140X card. It is recognized by the BIOS, hdparm -t on the device works, and even putting an ext2 filesystem on the card can be done. However, as soon as any large reads off the filesystem are performed, the card ceases reading after an initial spurt of about 500 blocks. The logs below are from such a test (the card is ata4.00, /dev/sdc). The other card is a RiData Pro 1GB 150X, which only seems to work in PIO mode. The BIOS on the system I'm testing right now hangs when it tries to probe that card. That said, it works fine using vfat, albeit at 3.5MB/s vs the expected 20MB/s. Got any ideas for things to try? -ben -- "Time is of no importance, Mr. President, only life is important." Don't Email: <dont@xxxxxxxxx>. ....messages....
