It is better not to wait for IIO to get merged. Much as I'd like to argue IIO might go in soon, I suspect we'll still have a bit of an uphill struggle. As I've said I'll do the conversion to IIO, I'll be reading your code thoroughly anyway, so I'm happy to do a review of latest version you've posted.
