There have been not any problems previously with Ubuntu, unfortunately they seem something to try now, others have been through during 2.6.5 development and better should let it. I don't have recommendations what to try else, but looking back over years, some are continuously contributing new stuff at high rates and others try to become famous for being very stable :))) If a distribution does not stand a vanilla kernel anymore, what I would not expect in this case, use the trash bin.
