For me the rebooting is not a problem.
You only have to do that a couple of times to scan all the transponders.
After that there is no need to reboot.
I must say the driver runs pretty stable.
I did a modprobe mantis yesterday and did watch a few channels with it 
yesterday and today.
It is still running without a problem now.

The only problem I have right now is that the scan doesn'''t find any 
horizontal transponders.

Oh and an other thing that i was thinking about:
Is the CI working in this driver?
