While there are sound devices with ALSA drivers which are buggier than the
corresponding OSS drivers or for which there are no ALSA drivers, I'd call
that a bug.

Building your own kernel from upstream sources shouldn't be difficult. You'll
need fakeroot and kernel-package (for make-kpkg) if you want to install and
remove them via dpkg; devscripts will help too.
