Nah... It's not that simple... The functional dvb code for these "hybrid v4l/dvb" devices is nothing but the frontend module. The cx88 / bt878 / saa7134 is the "bridge". The "glue code" is just a few lines of code that connect the frontend module to an input of the "bridge". The way that it is currently set up is the way it has to be, unless somebody does a total re-write. That ain't happening, at least not now. The tuners, now that is a different story, and too much to explain right now. It's not as easy to explain this stuff in English as it is to explain in C. Take a look at the code. It wouldnt make any sense to do what you suggest. ...and NTSC is not "going dark". IIRC, What Philip is talking about is an FCC regulation that all programming in the USA must ALSO have digital broadcast available, without any additional fee by a certain time, i guess 14 months from now. Analog broadcast will no longer be *required* after that point, but nobody said that all analog broadcasting will be discontinued. That just isnt practical -- The Television / advertising industry simply cannot afford to lose a majority of its customer base due to all analog televisions going obsolete. There *will* be overlap, and probably for a long time. However, some channels WILL discontinue their analog broadcasts, one by one. -Michael Krufky
