Ok, I take it that my lsmod showed that not all the needed modules were
loaded then? 

I suppose that my last option is to build my own kernel (being a
software developer by trade I know better than to recompile software if
it isn't absolutely unavoidable but in this case it seems to be the only
way)

Can someone please direct me to a good howto for patching and compiling
my own DVB kernel? Preferably a kernel that supports Nova-T cards ...
