Problem still present in Ubuntu 12.10, running a 3.5-series kernel, and in
numerous other linux distros with same or earlier kernels.

Upon upgrade to Ubuntu 13.04 running a 3.8-series kernel, problem is no longer
evident. I can guess that work on the kernel bluetooth driver between 3.5 and
3.8 has resolved the problem. However, it may of value to keep this bug open
for the benefit of people maintaining pre-3.8 kernels.
