That is actually a good point. There are lots of cases where someone distributes closed source programs of other people and attributes it wrongly. Sometimes with branding changes and/or added malware. The only thing that closing the source might do is to reduce 'code butchering'. It would also prevent people from learning from the code and from reusing it in a sensible way.
