Not sure about recommendations.. I had a zoom h1 for recording band rehearsals. Was amazingly good sound quality and able to cope with very loud sound as well as very quiet. Don't remember any bad internal noise. Fast startip - almost instantaneous i think. However, it felt plasticky and after approx 9 months stopped booting following no obvious trauma. I got a refund and didn't replace it. However I wonder if I was unlucky. Half tempted to buy another one to see...
