Hi Christopher!
I use alsa MIDi, because on the command line, there's not much, that
can use JACK MIDI yet. Wel, there are other softsynths, but if I want
to use filters or MIDi sequencing, I can only use ALSa.
Beyond that, I didn't touch much. Increased accuracy with the
subfragment size, enable rt-exception, but didn't touch anything else
in the synth section (voices, streams, preloading...).

I think at this point I would start tweeking voices and streams.
Try compiling with greater numbers to see what happens.
Trial and error :)
