I use a Roland XV-2020 attached to my computer via a midi cable and
M2496 audio/midi card without any problems. The standard midi stuff
seems to work just fine in linux. However, you bring up an important
issue about the windows/mac software that is used to change parameters
on this type of unit.

I've tried using the Roland XV-Editor software with Wine but it will
not work correctly so am stuck using my work's XP laptop to run this
program when needed. It's not a huge deal for me since I just play
and don't tweak this sort of stuff, but I'm sure it would be annoying
to many others.
