I remember reading somewhere that many of these real time patches are going to
be rolled into the main kernel code. Does anyone remember when that's supposed
to happen, and whether this includes all the patches that are important to us?

Or perhaps I'm wrong?

As for your PAM configuration, this is what I use:

I would add
@audio hard memlock	125000

otherwise apps  complain about not being able to lock memory.
