This will be a very intersting thing ... as for lilve playing... and
very important also -- and i think the code should be written as an
extension to JACK(jackd deamon) so all the application that connect to
JAck will straight away inherit that global BPM set by jack(as the case
may be or set by an application which has this TAP in function for BPM
check)

I've been wanting the same thing. Maybe a simple JACK transport
master that, given the number of beats per bar, waits for one bar's
worth of taps (from some given input device) and starts the transport
at that BPM. Like when Dee Dee Ramone yells "1, 2, 3, 4!"
Maybe I'll try to write such a program, and name it DeeDee.
