A number of DSSI synths will not even build any more. I think anything that supports DSSI does so with legacy code. That is, the DSSI code was put in when that was all there was and so long as it continues to "just work" it will be left in. As soon as the maintainer has to do actual work to keep it going they are looking at time to support something very few use or to spend that time on what everyone else uses. Anyone new to plugin synth creation is going to learn to create LV2 plugins. So supporting dssi in a host means having a sound font synth internally or using standalone jack clients (using either alsa or jack midi). Depending on the intended use of the software, that may be a reasonable combination. If an audio track is the intended outcome, maybe not. As a writing tool, to create a score, it seems reasonable.
