You could try a pure Perl or Python tag library. For MP3 files with ID3 tags try this one: http://eyed3.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation.html It is pure Python and has no dependencies on compiled Python modules. It comes with the 'eye3D' command line tool. If there's a recent Python version (3.4+) on the server, you should be able to install it anywhere like this: $ # make virtual environment for a separated installation $ python -m venv env $ source env/bin/activate (env) $ pip install eye3D Then, while the virtual env is activated, you can use the eye3D tool.
