I cannot speak to LInkedin spam.
However I could use my linkedin account inclusively prior to the buyout.
I cannot now, with inclusion improvements far from certain, according
to the LInkedin employee involved.
As a result, I look like a spammer in return because I can neither
communicate with contacts there, let alone accept invitations from
professional associates.
Had I known Microsoft would someday own the company I would never have
created an account at all.
But this is me,

Can you elaborate on why would a purchase by Microsoft be bad for GitHub?
Nokia, Skype, LinkedIn
... just for starters.
Just so. I am not even sure what the company in question does, but
reading Microsoft might buy it automatically brought examples to mind
of the pending disaster.
I had forgotten they bought LInkedin...explains much.
I think LinkedIn spam was a thing way before Microsoft. Opting out of
LinkedIn spam seemed to be about as effective as opting out of Windows
10 upgrades.
