I find it much easier to have transparency eg. to have everything
running all the time seamlessly.  That way when I mix something and
browse some online information on mixing that has an audio example, or
a youtube video on mixing, I do not need to 'fiddle' with the sound
system and softwares to hear that.  Moreover when I see an example on
youtube, I can immediately switch to Mixbus32C running jack to try
something.  This is done by using the pulseaudio jack sink which loads
automatically when the system starts.  I usually do not use qjackctl
but only to switch pulseaudio output to the headphones exclusively.
