Why ? Latency introduced by digital or analogue gear, will always come on top of it.
So the goal is to keep it as small as possible.
Archive a latency of ~5ms isn't as hard with a proper set up machine.

You'll never change anything on "travel time of the sound wave in the air", so why make it complicated?
