Perhaps for virtual synth, but you cannot assume 12 equal temperament
for external synth. In regards to guitar tuners, you theoretically
could assume 12 equal temperament, but not all guitar tuners work very
well, IOW they often don't do what they should do.

Since the OP mentioned guitars, this should be taken into account. The
culprit most likely are bad adjusted guitars. Even an electric guitar
were it's possible to adjust the intonation, needs to be adjusted from
time to time, even when always using the same gauge of strings, always
using the same tuning and no whammy bar at all.
