Well, I was ready to help you with a big daddy tone, but this morning
Jack fails to start here too, and I cannot see what I done wrong. I'm
using 2.4.21-0.16mm-mdk on a Cel700&320RAM laptop, using a poor Intel810
card (for now)

[root@satellite xix]# jackd -d alsa -d hw:0 (also tried jackd -R -d alsa
-d hw:0 -r 44100 -p 1024 -n 2 &)
jackd 0.72.5
(lisence stuff)
JACK compiled with System V SHM support
loading driver ..
creating alsa driver ... hw:0|hw:0|1024|2|48000|nomon|swmeter|rt
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:866:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p failed:
Device or resource busy
jackd: pcm.c:696: snd_pcm_nonblock: Assertion `pcm' failed.
received signal 6 during shutdown (ignored)

I'd like Jack to be launched at startup, like from /etc/rc.d/rc.local,
but 1st I have to fully understand what it does and how.

#Can it be use as a standalone Audio daemon, like Arts or esd ?
#In this case how to tell KDE to launch it ? Or better, can I start it
BEFORE and have KDE connect to it ?
#Is it designed to be run as root only ? Yesterday I managed to launch
it as a user, and then still as a user, launch jack-rack that connected
to it. Fact is, that was pretty much paradise, I'd like to do it again ;)
# Is there a better place to ask those Qs ?

Thank you very much !

pX

PS - the last Moloko album "statues" rocks and damn SOUNDS, IMHO.
