They do today, but in the future? There are always plenty of guns... If we don't want to give the monkey the gun, we need a more complex solution than that... and it becomes a question about how far you want to take gun control. Then there's the question about why we should have this data allocated permanently in the system when it is only used for a very short period during driver initialisation.
