Has anyone ever tried MontaVista Linux or is familiar with it ? I hear it is a popular embedded Linux distro. On 5/3/06, pfengland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <pfengland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
I was originally interested in getting bcc compiled to run natively under ELKS, but it seems there is more work to be done to get the kernel and basic system components working better (and maybe faster) before that is really useful. I'm curious as to whether it is possible to get ELKS to a place where it is actually useable on ancient systems. It is way slower (and way more sophisticated, of course) than freeDOS and the like. I want to try and experiment with getting a really pared down ELKS system running faster and more reliably. I am curious on what early unix systems were like and the specs of the machines they were running on. I remember reading that when DOS was invented, UNIX took up about 100K of system memory for itself. If it worked well on that, it should be possible to get a simple unix like system running great with 640K. Is there anyone paying attention to this list who has actively devloped ELKS, or have all of them moved on? I have C and developing 8086 assembly skills. I hope to work on ELKS when I get a chance, which will probably be in a month and a half or so. Has anyone had any luck getting a copy of the lates elks sources yet?
