Okay, well I can't suggest much else, sorry (I use a different agrsm driver, for a different modem). > When I try to remove modules, I get error message "Module agrserial is > in use" and "Module agrmodem is in use". Something is holding the modem open. Pppd or wvdial, etc. You'll need to kill it before you can reload the modules. > Here is part of my kern.log. > > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.017630] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: > power state changed by ACPI to D0 > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.017647] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: PCI > INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16 > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.017695] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: > setting latency timer to 64 > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.042749] * Hello Agere Driver ** > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.042797] usbcore: registered new > interface driver agr12dec2006 > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.122877] input: HDA Digital PCBeep > as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/input/input7 > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.236171] input: ImPS/2 Synaptics > TouchPad as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input8 > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.350072] type=1505 > audit(1276032400.350:5): operation="profile_load" pid=1038 > name="/usr/share/gdm/guest-session/Xsession" > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.353912] type=1505 > audit(1276032400.354:6): operation="profile_replace" pid=1041 > name="/sbin/dhclient3" > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.354465] type=1505 > audit(1276032400.354:7): operation="profile_replace" pid=1041 > name="/usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dhcp-client.action" > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.354763] type=1505 > audit(1276032400.354:8): operation="profile_replace" pid=1041 > name="/usr/lib/connman/scripts/dhclient-script" > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.386235] type=1505 > audit(1276032400.386:9): operation="profile_load" pid=1044 > name="/usr/bin/evince" > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.402406] type=1505 > audit(1276032400.402:10): operation="profile_load" pid=1044 > name="/usr/bin/evince-previewer" > Jun 8 23:26:40 t-u kernel: [ 23.419326] type=1505 > audit(1276032400.418:11): operation="profile_load" pid=1044 > name="/usr/bin/evince-thumbnailer" > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.690024] iwl3945 0000:10:00.0: > firmware: requesting iwlwifi-3945-2.ucode > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.838001] iwl3945 0000:10:00.0: > loaded firmware version 15.32.2.9 > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.838237] iwl3945 0000:10:00.0: Radio > disabled by HW RF Kill switch > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.839986] alloc irq_desc for 31 on node -1 > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.839989] alloc kstat_irqs on node -1 > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.840013] tg3 0000:18:00.0: irq 31 > for MSI/MSI-X > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.869453] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: > link is not ready > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.876717] Bridge firewalling registered > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.904816] virbr0: starting userspace > STP failed, starting kernel STP > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.915279] ip_tables: (C) 2000-2006 > Netfilter Core Team > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.917523] iwl3945 0000:10:00.0: Radio > disabled by HW RF Kill switch > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.978351] Loading module Agere Modem > Controller driver version 2.1.80 (2007-10-01) > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.978355] Disabling lock debugging > due to kernel taint > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.980378] serial8250_register_ports: > BaseAddress 0x4004 Irq 16 > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.980383] ttyAGS3 at I/O 0x4004 (irq > = 16) is a AgereModem > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.980770] agrserial - ret_val 0, > call: lt_modem_ops.init_modem > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.980773] Loading module Agere Modem > Interface driver version 2.1.80.0 (2007-10-01) > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.993237] nf_conntrack version 0.5.0 > (16384 buckets, 65536 max) > Jun 8 23:26:41 t-u kernel: [ 24.993425] CONFIG_NF_CT_ACCT is > deprecated and will be removed soon. So, the solution probably involves changing power-saving options, but I am not experienced in that area. You've already tried disabling power-saving on the sound (modem) card, so maybe the next step to try is disabling APM in the kernel or BIOS. > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.281145] Modules linked in: > ppp_deflate zlib_deflate bsd_comp ppp_async crc_ccitt binfmt_misc > vboxnetadp vboxnetflt vboxdrv ipt_MASQUERADE iptable_nat nf_nat > nf_conntrack_ipv4 nf_defrag_ipv4 xt_state nf_conntrack agrserial > ipt_REJECT xt_tcpudp iptable_filter ip_tables x_tables bridge stp > dm_crypt kvm_intel kvm snd_hda_codec_analog agrmodem snd_hda_intel > arc4 snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep snd_pcm_oss snd_mixer_oss snd_pcm > snd_seq_dummy snd_seq_oss snd_seq_midi snd_rawmidi snd_seq_midi_event > snd_seq snd_timer snd_seq_device iwl3945 ppdev iwlcore tpm_infineon > mac80211 parport_pc snd tpm tpm_bios hp_accel lis3lv02d input_polldev > led_class cfg80211 compat_firmware_class soundcore snd_page_alloc > psmouse serio_raw lp parport raid10 raid456 async_raid6_recov async_pq > raid6_pq async_xor async_memcpy async_tx raid1 raid0 multipath linear > dm_raid45 xor vesafb fbcon tileblit font bitblit softcursor i915 > drm_kms_helper drm intel_agp agpgart i2c_algo_bit video output tg3 > ahci ramzswap xvmalloc l > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: zo_decompress lzo_compress > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.281987] > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.282000] Pid: 2629, comm: wvdial > Tainted: P (2.6.32-22-generic #35-Ubuntu) HP Compaq 6710b > (KE124EA#AKN) > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.282054] EIP: 0060:[<c015be38>] > EFLAGS: 00210282 CPU: 0 > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.282088] EIP is at add_timer+0x18/0x20 > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.282110] EAX: f9821940 EBX: f8aef114 > ECX: 00000000 EDX: f8aeee40 > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.282143] ESI: f8aef114 EDI: fffffff4 > EBP: edeffd70 ESP: edeffd70 > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.282176] DS: 007b ES: 007b FS: 00d8 > GS: 00e0 SS: 0068 > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.282206] Process wvdial (pid: 2629, > ti=edefe000 task=edcae680 task.ti=edefe000) > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.282246] Stack: > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.282260] edeffd78 f9719343 edeffd88 > f97d426c f97d4227 f8aef114 edeffda8 f97d42f5 > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.282329] <0> 000003e8 00000000 > 00000000 00000000 12345678 f8aef114 edeffdb0 f97196a2 > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.282407] <0> edeffdc8 f8aedf40 > c01cf9fb 00000000 f0519998 f8aef114 edeffde0 c03dc75a > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.284970] Call Trace: > Jun 8 23:34:48 t-u kernel: [ 511.284970] [<f9719343>] ?
