You may try unloading script: http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/unloading.gz Download it copy to your linux partition, and run $ gunzip unloading.gz $ chmod +x unloading $ sudo ./unloading Then after it is done, try the console based wvdial not (gnome-ppp) and see what it outputs. If you don't have username, password and ISP phone number add it and remove the ";" which are used for comments. Try that and report back.
