Βασίλης, There are true differences between your /boot/grub and mine. Your Ubuntu installation used the newer GRUB 2 while mine is GRUB2 plus some leftovers from the legacy GRUB 1, specifically including the menu.lst file which GRUB 2 is no longer using, it seems For GRUB 2, there is a file /etc/default/grub beginning -------------------- # If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update # /boot/grub/grub.cfg. GRUB_DEFAULT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT="10" Edit it with: $ sudo gedit /etc/default/grub changing GRUB_DEFAULT=0 to GRUB_DEFAULT=2 Save and do the $ sudo update-grub Then reboot to see which kernel is selected. Loosing audio under 2.6.28 is normal on a KARMIC 2.6.31 system, because the ALSA utils don't support the older 2.6.28 audio kernel drivers MarvS 2010/1/14 Jacques Goldberg <Jacques.Goldberg@xxxxxxx>: > Vassilis, > > The title is not the problem. > > The problem is the contents. > > PLEASE do not send to discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx mails whose contents have > nothing to do with modems. > > I must say that what you have in your /boot/grub is absolutely wonderful, > something never seen so far, by me at least. > > Very strange things have happened with software installation on your > machine. > > For comparison here are the contents of /boot/grub on my computer: > > [localhost] /home/goldberg/Desktop > ls /boot/grub > device.map iso9660_stage1_5 rh9.xpm.gz vstafs_stage1_5 > e2fs_stage1_5 jfs_stage1_5 splash.xpm xfs_stage1_5 > fat_stage1_5 menu.lst stage1 > ffs_stage1_5 minix_stage1_5 stage2 > grub.conf reiserfs_stage1_5 ufs2_stage1_5 > > > Certainly less sexy than yours .... > > > Most people select GRUB for bootup control when installing Linux: you > probably selected something else, perhaps LILO, SYSLINUX or LOADLIN to > quote the most popular.
