MAH, The best approach is to try to get the modem working under an earlier kernel. Please start a download from http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/i386/linux-image-2.6.28-16-generic/download and from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/ get the slamr-2.6.28-16-generic.tar.gz Install the new kernel with: $ sudo dpkg -i linux-image*.deb it is compatible with the otherwise karmic installation. Then reboot into the new 2.6.28-16-generic boot kernel choice. It this choice is not evident, report back. The modem package is installed by unpacking: $ tar zxf slam*.tar.gz Move into the new folder: $ cd slamr-2.6.28-16-generic Browse a bit and run: $ sudo ./setup MarvS On Fri, Jan 1, 2010 at 9:46 AM, M.A. Haddad <moonlighthd@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > On 1/1/2010 1:54 AM, Marvin Stodolsky wrote: >> >> MAH >> >> For the 10b9:5459 chipset Modem: ALi Corporation SmartLink >> SmartPCI561 56K Modem >> the slamr driver is needed. >> Slamr is providing service into the 2.6.30 kernels, but service has >> failed for the kernels such as your Ubuntu 2.6.31-14-generic kernel. >> >> Sadly the creator of this driver is no longer aiding us, so there is >> no promise for a fix in the short term.
