what is a modem riser or modem daughter card in laptops ?

hi Bjorn,

These modules seem to be pretty standardized. I exchanged two
different makes by Askey Inc. and it worked well. those modules have a
wire i/f to the telephone plug via some chokes & stuff
while that plug in the foreground goes to the AC'97 modem controller.
This stuff sells at 8 EURO at ebay. So a laptop user who does not like
his windows softmodem (Agere or PCTel or whatever) can exchange the
module, provided he has access to a driver too. The 2 wire plug seems
to be standardized too.
