MarvS, I have written to Marino.Persico@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in Italian. While waiting for an answer, looking at the ModemData.txt he had posted, I think he and I are using the same hardware. As far as Puppy Linux is concerned, there are many variants ("Puplets") of this system. The one I downloaded, NOP, has a slmodemd without Alsa support, so I think installing an Alsa-enabled slmodemd is an absolute minimum prerequisite before even attempting dialling out. I'm still not sure whether there are any successful cases of connecting with ali5451 using Alsa-driver newer than 1.0.15. Another question: I have seen there are compiled packages like SLMODEMD_gcc4.4_alsa1.0.21.tar.gz. I imagine, but please correct me if I'm wrong, that this means, compiled with gcc 4.4 after Alsa-lib 1.0.21 has been compiled and installed. In other words, the version of Alsa-driver does not affect the result of the slmodemd compilation, or does it? In my tests with various kernels, I used to install Alsa-lib with the same version of Alsa-driver before compiling slmodemd. However, I never successfully connected unless I used the old Alsa-driver and Alsa-lib 1.0.15. - Pink On 12/7/09, Marvin Stodolsky <marvin.stodolsky@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Pink, > > Thanks greatly for testing all the kernels. > It you haven'r provided this information to the ALSA team, please do do. > Within scanModem, I will set a URL to your email in the Archives, to > be displayed when an ALI5451 card is detected. > > MarvS > > On Sun, Dec 6, 2009 at 2:06 PM, Pink SoftBunny > <pinksoftbunny@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: >> MarvS, >> >> thank you very much for writing - sorry for not replying earlier. >> >> I'd be happy to help with Italian transalations, when needed. >> >> As far as I could see, both compiled and packaged versions of slmodemd >> 2.9.11 work, provided Alsa-driver and Alsa-lib are right. >> Here are my experiences with some distributions: >> >> Knoppix 5.1.1.
