Forrest, Please try to use wvdial from the command line or terminal. If you use gnome-ppp, it won't change your results. Please send us output of $ sudo cat /etc/wvdial.conf put ******* in place of password to protect your connection, then like we kindly asked you to do $ sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf and remove the ";" and add your username, password, ISP, etc. Thanks, Antonio On 11/17/09, Forrest Charnock <fpcharnock@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Dear Antonio and MarvS : > > I got finished early yoday so I tried to connect.These are the results. > > This way it does get a dial tone but it does not dial and it will hang > up. > > Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 >> Modem Type = Analog Modem >> Phone = earthlink.net >> ISDN = 0 >> Username = fpcharnock@xxxxxxxxxxxxx >> Init1 = ATZ >> Password = ******** >> Modem = /dev/ttyHSF0 >> Baud = 460800 > Stupid mode = 1 > Carrier Check = no > > -> Ignoring malformed input line: ";Do NOT edit this file by hand!" > --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 > --> Cannot set information for serial port. > --> Initializing modem. > --> Sending: ATZ > ATZ > OK > --> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 > ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 > OK > --> Modem initialized. > --> Sending: ATM1L3DT2990051 > --> Waiting for carrier. > ATM1L3DT2990051 > > This is from sudo wvdial > forrest@warden-Ubu-1:~$ sudo wvdial > --> Ignoring malformed input line: "Dialer Defaults]" > --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 > --> Warning: section [Dialer Defaults] does not exist in wvdial.conf. > --> Initializing modem. > --> Sending: ATZ > ATZ > OK > --> Modem initialized. > --> Configuration does not specify a valid phone number. > --> Configuration does not specify a valid login name. > --> Configuration does not specify a valid password. > forrest@warden-Ubu-1:~$ > > > This way it does get a dial tone but it does not dial and it won't hang > up. > > This is the connection file. > > > [Dialer Defaults] > Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 >> Modem Type = Analog Modem >> Phone = earthlink.net >> ISDN = 0 >> Username = fpcharnock@xxxxxxxxxxxxx >> Init1 = ATZ >> Password = ******* >> Modem = /dev/ttyHSF0 >> Baud = 460800 > Stupid mode = 0 > Carrier Check = yes > > > Carrier Check = yesing malformed input line: ";Do NOT edit this file by > hand!" > --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 > --> Cannot set information for serial port. > > WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 > --> Warning: section [Dialer Defaults] does not exist in wvdial.conf. > --> Initializing modem. > --> Sending: ATZ > ATZ > OK > --> Modem initialized. > --> Configuration does not specify a valid phone number. > --> Configuration does not specify a valid login name. > --> Configuration does not specify a valid password. > forrest@warden-Ubu-1:~$ sudo wvdial > --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 > --> Initializing modem. > --> Sending: ATZ > ATZ > OK > --> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 > ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 > OK > --> Modem initialized. > --> Configuration does not specify a valid phone number. > --> Configuration does not specify a valid login name. > --> Configuration does not specify a valid password. > forrest@warden-Ubu-1:~$ > > The good news is it is initializing the modem.
