Before trying to compile in the martian package, install
packages linux-libc-dev and libc6-dev if not already on your system.
Also install wvdial as it is preferred over gnome-ppp, at least in the
testing stage.

Then reboot and rerun scanModem, to assess if the presence of the
martian_drv alleviates:

Until pci slot  0000:01:03.0 is enabled, the modem cannot work.
