Shannon, Gmail is misbehaving, so I am sending this from yahoo mail. Try the following Init String: Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 X3 &C1 &D2 +MS=90 and if it fails bring it to Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 X3 &C1 &D2 +MS=34 also add options to /etc/wvdial.conf Carrier Check = no # Stupid Mode = yes if for some reason connectivity struggles remove the "#" from the Stupid Mode = yes option. To find out more about the options check the DOCs/ folder in Modem/ directory which was generated by scanModem. The file wvdial.txt explains it in details. Hope this helps, Regards, Antonio --- On Sat, 4/11/09, Shannon VanWagner <shannon.vanwagner@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > From: Shannon VanWagner <shannon.vanwagner@xxxxxxxxx> > Subject: Re: Humble request for an updated slamr driver for Ubuntu 9.04 ( 2.6.28-11-generic ) > To: "Antonio Olivares" <olivares14031@xxxxxxxxx> > Cc: "Marvin Stodolsky" <marvin.stodolsky@xxxxxxxxx>, discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Date: Saturday, April 11, 2009, 1:55 PM > Thanks a bunch Antonio, that seems to have enabled detection > and I was > able to dial out with it but now it seems to disconnect: > > barbara@ubuntu-barb:/etc$ sudo wvdial > --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 > --> Cannot get information for serial port. > --> Initializing modem. > --> Sending: ATZ > ATZ > OK > --> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 > ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 > OK > --> Modem initialized. > --> Sending: ATDT2063121000 > --> Waiting for carrier. > ATDT2063121000 > --> Disconnecting at Sat Apr 11 13:52:06 2009 > > > This was after I ran sudo wvdialconf > > barbara@ubuntu-barb:/etc$ cat /etc/wvdial.conf (some > values edited) > > [Dialer Defaults] > Init1 = ATZ > Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 > Modem Type = Analog Modem > Baud = 460800 > New PPPD = yes > Modem = /dev/ttySL0 > ISDN = 0 > Phone = (edited) > Password = (edited) > Username = (edited) > > > Any suggestions? > > Thanks very much!!! > > Shannon VanWagner > > 2009/4/11 Antonio Olivares <olivares14031@xxxxxxxxx>: > > Shannon, > > > > Try the following: > > > > me@mach:~$ sudo modprobe ungrab-winmodem > > me@mach:~$ sudo modprobe slamr > > but add this > > me@mach:~$ sudo mknod -m 600 /dev/slamr0 c 242 0 > > before > > me@mach:~$ sudo slmodemd -c USA /dev/slamr0 > > > > Report back if this fixed it or still seeing the same > problem? > > > > Regards, > > > > Antonio > > > > 2009/4/11 Shannon VanWagner > <shannon.vanwagner@xxxxxxxxx>: > >> Thanks all! > >> > >> I was able to get the packages installed, but > I'm not able to get the > >> modem to show up at /dev/slamr or /dev/ttySL0 > >> > >> The modrobe command shows the slamr drive > installed but I'm not seeing > >> the /dev entry for the modem. > >> > >> I've attached a file(things_tried.txt) with > some things I've tried, > >> please have a look. > >> > >> Any suggestions would be much appreciated! > >> > >> Thanks very much! > >> > >> Shannon VanWagner > >> http://humans-enabled.com > >> > >> > >> On Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 5:52 PM, Marvin Stodolsky > >> <marvin.stodolsky@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > >>> Shannon, > >>> > >>> Ahmed's instructions are correct, if you > are alternately online by > >>> ethernet/wireless. > >>> > >>> However if not already online, if will be > easiest to first get from > >>> > http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/ > the > >>> slamr-2.6.27-??-generic.tar.gz that > matches the > >>> kernel 2.6.27-??-generic already installed on > your System, > >>> > >>> That will enable you to get on line under the > 2.6.27-??-generic kernel and run: > >>> $ sudo apt-get update > >>> $ sudo apt-get install dkms sl-modem-source > >>> per Ahmed's instructions. > >>> > >>> For service under the 2.6.28-11-generic > kernel, you will additionally > >>> have to install packages from > >>> > http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/linux-headers-2.6.28-11-generic/ > >>> (unless they are already on your system) to > enable compiling under > >>> 2.6.28-11-generic. > >>> > >>> That done, when you reboot into > 2.6.28-11-generic, the dkms system > >>> will compile and install the slamr driver. > >>> > >>> MarvS > >>> scanModem maintainer > >>> > >>> > >>> On Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 11:50 AM, أحمد > المحمودي > >>> <aelmahmoudy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > wrote: > >>>> On Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 05:54:41AM -0700, > Shannon VanWagner wrote: > >>>>> I was looking here(and not seeing it): > >>>>> > http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/ > >>>>> > >>>>> Can you point me to where to download > it? > >>>> ---end quoted text--- > >>>> > >>>> From Ubuntu repository: > >>>> > http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/sl-modem-source > >>>> > >>>> simply run: sudo apt-get install > sl-modem-source > >>>> > >>>> -- > >>>> أحمد المحمودي (Ahmed > El-Mahmoudy) > >>>> Digital design engineer > >>>> GPG KeyID: 0x9DCA0B27 (@ > subkeys.pgp.net) > >>>> GPG Fingerprint: 087D 3767 8CAC 65B1 > 8F6C 156E D325 C3C8 9DCA 0B27 > >>>> > >>> > >> > >
