Ink, Antonio's guidance is correct. However, for Debian/Ubuntu users there is a longer term solution now. http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/dkms The dkms services will provide for automatic updates of cogent drivers as you update kernels Under Linux, install with $ sudo dpkg -i dkms*.deb A slmodem-2.9.11 code package with dkms triggers has been assembled by أحمد المحمودي (Ahmed El-Mahmoudy) and is now availablestarting at http://packages.debian.org/source/sid/sl-modem Follow both the links: sl-modem-daemon SmartLink software modem daemon sl-modem-source SmartLink software modem driver - module building source Simplest just to reboot after their installation, and the modem will be setup. Note that there is a problem with the slamr driver. Only one dialout session is supported per Linux session. Hopefully this will be fixed by exterior kernel changes, but there is nothing we can do within the slamr code.
