Hello There
I have been having trouble following instructions :-)
The letter below is from you to me explaining what to do.
I have downloaded SLMODEMD_gcc4.2_alsa1.0.17.tar.gz
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nonni,
The modem driver is snd-intel8x0m, already on your System
Download from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/
the package SLMODEMD_gcc4.2_alsa1.0.17.tar.gz having a compiled
slmodemd. Unpack under Linux with:\par
$ tar zxf SLMODEMD_gcc4.3_alsa1.0.17.tar.gz\par
and read instructions therein. But briefly, the modem is setup with
command:\par
$ sudo slmodemd -c CANADA --alsa modem:1
reporting dynamic creation of ports:\par
/dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N , with N some number
Read DOCs/Smartlink.txt and Modem/DOCs/YourSystem.txt for follow
through guidance.
You seem to have installed the sl-modem-daemon package. If so do
$ sudo gedit /etc/default/ sl-modem-daemon
and change the Country from USA to CANADA.
Then there is already done during bootup, the
slmodemd -c CANADA --alsa modem:1
and the modem should be found by:
$ sudo wvdialconf
Edit in your personal information by:
$ sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf
removing the symbols: < > ;
and adding a line:
Carrier Check = no
Thereafter your should be able to dialout with:
$ sudo wvdial
If the modem occassional dies, just do
$ sudo /etc/init.d/sl-modem-daemon restart
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and down here is what I was trying to do
error: alsa setup: cannot open playback device 'modem:1': Device or resource
busy
error: cannot setup device `modem:1'
when I had installed openSuse 11.1 and ran the modem it suggested that I
install
Smartlink Softmodem which I did. It was 2.9.10-203.1.i586.rpm. I think that
it showed up
on your Scanmodem. I was wondering if it was in conflict and so uninstalled
it, but
still received the error message.
Thanks very much for your help
Nonni
